A business incubator rooted in the local community
The Bela krajina Business Incubator is a regional support organisation for entrepreneurs, start-ups, young companies and individuals developing new business ideas in south-eastern Slovenia.
We believe that strong entrepreneurial ideas can emerge anywhere. Smaller regions offer important advantages, including close cooperation between people and institutions, a strong local identity, practical knowledge of local needs and opportunities to connect different stakeholders.
Our incubator is therefore more than a provider of offices and coworking space. It is a meeting point for ideas, knowledge, mentoring, collaboration and development opportunities.
We help entrepreneurs move from an initial idea to concrete action by providing:
- individual mentoring and business consultations,
- business model, product and service development,
- market and customer validation,
- marketing, sales and financial planning,
- support for digital transformation,
- information on national and European funding opportunities,
- access to external experts,
- entrepreneurial education and networking,
- coworking and office spaces.
Our approach is based on long-term support. We help entrepreneurs develop their ideas, test assumptions, identify customers, consider pricing and sales channels, and define realistic next steps.
Part of European business and innovation networks
The Bela krajina Business Incubator is a member of EBN – the European Business and Innovation Centre Network, which connects business and innovation support organisations across Europe.
We are also part of the Startup Village network, which promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in smaller towns and rural areas.
Through these networks, we exchange good practices, develop international partnerships and connect the local entrepreneurial ecosystem with European expertise, knowledge and development opportunities.
Supporting entrepreneurship across Bela krajina
Bela krajina is a border region in south-eastern Slovenia comprising the municipalities of Črnomelj, Metlika and Semič.
The region combines a strong community identity with a rich natural and cultural environment, creative individuals, small businesses, tourism providers, schools, public institutions and local organisations.
In addition to supporting individual entrepreneurs and start-ups, we:

Part of RIC Bela krajina
The Bela krajina Business Incubator operates within RIC Bela krajina – the Development and Information Centre Bela krajina, a public institution that supports the long-term development of the region.
RIC Bela krajina brings together several complementary areas:
- entrepreneurship and business support,
- tourism and destination management,
- digital transformation,
- development and European projects,
- culture and heritage,
- nature conservation,
- youth, education and community development.
This structure enables us to connect businesses, tourism providers, municipalities, schools, public institutions, cultural organisations, NGOs and local communities.
Entrepreneurship and tourism
One of our main strengths is the close connection between entrepreneurship and tourism.
Through the Bela krajina Destination Management Organisation, RIC Bela krajina coordinates the development, promotion and sustainable management of the destination.
By combining expertise in business support and destination management, we contribute to projects related to:
- tourism products and experiences,
- local food and crafts,
- outdoor and nature-based tourism,
- cultural heritage,
- digital visitor services,
- sustainable mobility,
- green business models,
- cooperation between local providers.
Other areas of work
Digital transformation and innovation
We support companies, public institutions and other organisations in adopting digital tools, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity solutions and new business models.
Our activities include training, workshops, consultations, support for the digital transformation of SMEs and cooperation within the European Digital Innovation Hub ecosystem.
Youth entrepreneurship and education
We cooperate with primary and secondary schools, teachers, students and young entrepreneurial teams.
Our programmes develop creativity, initiative, teamwork and practical problem-solving skills through workshops, mentoring, start-up challenges, the GO4 Idea Entrepreneurship School and the Summer Entrepreneurship School.
Sustainable and nature-based development
Our work connects tourism, nature conservation, outdoor experiences, environmental education, local communities and sustainable event management.
The region offers numerous development opportunities connected with the Kolpa River, Lahinja Landscape Park, forests, karst landscapes and protected natural areas.
Culture and heritage
We manage and coordinate cultural and heritage institutions, programmes and events.
Our activities include heritage preservation and interpretation, cultural events, museums, exhibitions, educational programmes and the development of heritage-based tourism products.
Development projects and international cooperation
RIC Bela krajina has experience in preparing and implementing local, regional, national, European and cross-border projects.
We contribute through:
- project concept development,
- partner searches and project applications,
- project management and reporting,
- stakeholder engagement,
- pilot activities,
- workshops and events,
- communication and dissemination.
